SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Converts status and controls digital interface signals to a serial interface using the Digital RS232/485 Conversion Unit. Extends digital interface signals fifty feet over RS-232 or four thousand feet over RS-485. This device will accommodate eight optically isolated digital input signals and eight optically isolated digital output signals. These signals are converted to a serial protocol and then sent over a RS-232 or RS-485 interface. The Digital to RS232/485 Conversion Unit provides simple asynchronous exchange of signals in a two device configuration. It can also be used in a multi-unit configuration where each device may be addressed to poll the digital interface signals. In this mode, up to sixteen unique addresses are supported. This mode will also allow for a common broadcast address where all sixteen devices can have the same digital output signals sent to them. LEDs provide user friendly indication of the status of the digital interface signals as well as “COMM Good” indicator to confirm valid serial communication. This “COMM Good” status is also made available to an external interface signal.
